Систематизирует информацию о минеральных ресурсах, обеспечивает научную базу, разрабатывает рекомендации правительству, составляет геологические карты, издаёт бюллетени, доклады, монографии. Создано в Канберре в 1946 как Бюро минеральных ресурсов, геологии и геофизики {Bureau of Mineral Resources, Geology and Geophysics})
